Graduation and Commencement Information

All OMBA students who graduate in January, May, or August are invited to participate in Boston University’s annual Commencement Weekend in May of the given calendar year.
May 2025 Commencement Weekend will take place May 15-18, 2025.
Please view and bookmark the following websites – these will be updated regularly between now and commencement weekend and are great resources to refer to with questions.
All students should refer to the Graduation and/or Diploma Knowledge articles available in OMBA Link for any frequently asked questions.
Cap and Gown Ordering Information
All students participating in Questrom Convocation and BU Commencement are required to have University-approved regalia. Students should order their regalia directly through the BU Bookstore: http://colleges.herffjones.com/college/bu/. OMBA students should select the Master’s gown and Questrom-MBA as their area of study when placing their orders.
Students have the option to have their regalia shipped to their homes or they can select to pick up their regalia on campus during Commencement Weekend (pick-up times will be posted on the Commencement website in April). Please note that the deadline to order for campus pickup is March 25th. The last day to order regalia to have it shipped in time for Commencement Weekend is April 15th. (Caps & Gowns will not be available for order after April 15).
Please note: when ordering your regalia, you will see the event date posted on the website as Sunday, May 18 – this information is correct as it is based on the all-university commencement. The Herff Jones website does not specify individual program convocation dates as there are too many program events within the university to list. Please purchase your regalia as instructed.
If students do not have regalia at convocation, they will not be eligible to walk across stage. Please be diligent in ordering proper regalia before the posted deadline.

Obtaining Tickets for the All-University Commencement on Sunday, May 18
All graduating students will receive an email from commencement@bu.edu requiring everyone to register for the all-university commencement on Sunday at 1pm. This email comes from a third-party vendor for the university and WILL look cryptic, but is a legitimate email. Please follow the instructions provided in that email to register yourself for a stage pass to access Nickerson Field as a graduate (you cannot attend Sunday’s event without a stage pass, so be sure to register). After you complete the required registration form, you will then receive a separate email from commtix@bu.edu to formally RSVP and get your tickets for your guests. Note: This is a TWO-STEP PROCESS, failure to complete tasks asked of you from both email announcements will result in a missed registration and ticket opportunity.
Questions about ticketing should be directed to commtix@bu.edu. The OMBA Success Team is not involved in this process.
Planning your visit to Boston
You can find detailed information about planning your visit to Boston on the BU Commencement website: https://www.bu.edu/commencement/visit/. Please be advised that this will be a busy weekend across the city, so we encourage students to book their travel and accommodations soon.

Updating your Diploma Information in the BU Student Link
If you haven’t already, please log in to the MyBU Student Dashboard and navigate to the Tasks page to ensure you do not have any outstanding diploma tasks.
Graduating with Honors and Honor Societies
Honors will be awarded to graduates whose cumulative Questrom grade point average (CGPA) is 3.55 or higher. High honors will be awarded to graduates whose Questrom CGPA is 3.70 or higher. Students will receive notification from the Questrom Registrar’s Office in April about their status. Students who attend Commencement will be given honors cords to wear with their regalia when they check in for the event on Friday evening. Unfortunately, we are unable to mail cords out to students who do not attend. All students who graduate with honors will have their designation printed on their diplomas. Students who are enrolled in a summer mod will be recognized at Commencement with their current cumulative GPA, and final GPAs will be recalculated at the end of the summer term prior to diploma printing.
Questrom has one honor society for all business students, Beta Gamma Sigma. Students are eligible for BGS if they are 1) in the top 20% of their class and 2) have applied to graduate. Eligible students will receive a letter from the Questrom Dean’s Office in late April with more details. Beta Gamma Sigma eligibility is only audited once per year, in April, based on GPAs at that point in time. There will be no invitations in September. Please be advised the OMBA Success Team does not have any involvement with the the Beta Gamma Sigma process for students.

**NEW INFORMATION REGARDING THE ALL-UNIVERSITY COMMENCEMENT ON SUNDAY, MAY 18:
All guests attending the All-University Commencement at Nickerson Field will be required to have tickets for entrance to the field.
The ticketing requirement is ONLY for the all-university commencement on Sunday, May 18. We cannot stress enough that this will NOT IMPACT guest entrance to the Questrom convocation ceremony on Friday, May 16th.
- Students will receive an email shortly after spring vacation letting them know the process to obtain tickets.
- Each graduate wishing to attend the All-University ceremony will have to register for themselves and will then be allotted up to 4 tickets per graduate for their guests.
- The graduates will be responsible for “delivering” these electronic tickets to their guests.
- There will also be a mechanism in place for graduates who may need more than 4 tickets.
- The All-University Commencement will include ASL interpretation and closed captioning. For those who cannot attend the in-person ceremony at Nickerson Field, a livestream with CART transcription will be available on our website.
Please note that the tickets are ONLY required for the All-University Commencement on May 18. School/college convocations will not require tickets for family and friends wishing to attend and there will be no limit to the number of guests graduates may bring to the convocation. The convocation is the ceremony where graduates are individually recognized by having their names called as they cross the stage and handed the diploma cover.
**QUESTROM CONVOCATION STUDENT SPEAKER APPLICATIONS:
All Questrom graduate students eligible to walk in the May 2024 Convocation ceremony are invited to apply for the opportunity to deliver the student speech at Questrom’s Graduate ceremony.
